What is a doula?



In ancient Greek, the word "Doula" refers to "a woman who serves" or "female servant".  There are many instances of a doula throughout much of history both secular and religious.  These woman supported women with comfort, food, and emotionally.  This support helped to reduce anxiety and fear.



Now a doula is professionally trained to provide continuous physical, emotional and information support before, during and after the birth journey.
